Cioccolato Zaini Overview
Zaini was an Italian chocolate company created in 1913 by Luigi Zaini. The company created all sorts of sweets, including chocolate, cocoa, and preserves.
The company created at least two sets of multi-sport cards, believed to have been issued in the 1920s and/or 1930s.
Both sets of cards are rare but the rarer ones appear to be ones with black borders at the top and bottom with black and white images. A second, more common type includes a picture of an athlete with his name at the bottom. Both types of cards have the Cioccolato Zaini (Zainia Chocolate) name on the front.
A variety of sports are represented in the set, including boxing, tennis, soccer, cycling, fencing, racing, and track and field. While most of the names will not be familiar to American collectors, some of the names are notable. No biographies are given for the athletes and in most cases, only their last names are given.
The backs are different in these sets. The backs of the black-bordered cards are blank while the backs of the other off-white/light brown style of card have a Zaini logo/ad on the back.
Cioccolato Zaini Checklist
These cards are incredibly rare and I am not aware of any checklist existing for either set.
