204. Elephant and Monkeys Trade Card Overview
This is a trade card that featured a comical baseball scene.
Pictured on the card is an elephant playing in a game of baseball with monkeys. Elephants and monkeys aren’t the only animals on the card as an ostrich (or other large bird) is shown in the background running the bases and is apparently on the elephant’s team.
The elephant has just hit a baseball as evidenced by his swing using his trunk and the movement of all of the players on the field.
The card appears to have been used by numerous manufacturers. Advertising sponsors will likely have their information at the top of the card’s front or perhaps on the back, which was blank.
This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
