1922 Tobler Chocolates Black Stamps Set Overview
This stamp set was issued by Tobler Chocolates (Tobler Chokolado), a Swiss chocolate company. The exact date of issue is unknown. The company distributed other similar sets in the 1920s.
This series featured various sports, including tennis, wrestling, and soccer. The perforated stamps have a distinctive look with black borders, the Tobler Chokolado name, and colorful pictures. At the top of each stamp, the name is written in pink font.
Like many of the other Tobler stamps, these were printed in full sheets of 12. They are clearly part of a larger series as card numbering starts at No. 169. Other sports in the set are less minor, including fishing and cycling.
A few small interesting things are notable in this set. First, the full unseparated sheets were printed with the numbers out of order. Second, the a stamp representing javelin throwing is interesting as it could be considered as an overall track and field stamp with other activities appearing in the background.
