1927 Churchman Sporting Trophies Overview

1927 Churchman Sporting Trophies Golf This interesting set was issued by Imperial Tobacco for its Churchman tobacco brand. Instead of athletes, the set features trophies that could be won in various sports. Among the sports featured were boxing, golf, tennis, and soccer, among others.

Fronts of the card pictured the trophy in question and the back offered a description of it. The cards also mentioned the names of recent winners on the backs.

Like other Churchman sets produced in 1928, the company distributed both a smaller set and a larger, more limited set of these cards. The sets were not complete parallels of each other as the smaller set included 25 cards and the larger issue had only 12. But the cards that did appear in both sets utilized the same images.

Pictured here is one of the larger cards. The smaller ones were narrower like other typical tobacco cards.
