The 1932 Abdulla Cigarettes set includes a total of 200 German-produced cards. The key for American collectors here is the card of New York Yankees star Babe Ruth – the only baseball issue in the entire release.

The cards are extremely basic with a simple look. They are also equally rare. The Ruth surfaces here in America with some regularity as it is highly desirable to baseball card collectors. But finding other cards in the set has proven extremely difficult.

Ruth’s card was No. 196 in the set and the card measures approximately 1 3/4″ x 2 1/2″. Produced in 1932, this is a contemporary card produced while Ruth was still an active major league player.

The front of the card includes a black and white image of Ruth and has his name at the bottom with ‘Amerika’ to designate that he was a U.S. athlete. The back also includes his name and some text in German.

The majority of the set includes subjects from minor sports, including track and field, swimming, auto racing, and aviation. However, the set contains other types of more popular subjects from boxing, golf, and tennis. While the Ruth is the big fish in the set, the card of golfer Bobby Jones is right up there as well and commands a lot of money. Tennis Hall of Famer Bill Tilden is in the set, too.

Most of the key cards for American collectors, in fact, are near the end of the checklist. In addition to No. 195 and 196 (Tilden and Ruth), other popular subjects are near the end as well, including No. 193 Sonja Heine, No. 199 Max Schmeling, and No. 200 Jones.
