1907 Dietsche Michigan Wolverines Postcards Overview
This series featured members of the 1907 Michigan Wolverines football team. Dietsche will also be familiar to pre-war collectors from its early postcards featuring both the Detroit Tigers and also the Chicago Cubs in the PC765 set.
These cards are believed to be rarer than the sets for both of those teams – particular the ones featuring the Tigers, which are the most common.
Each postcard features a black and white image of a player against a black backdrop. Players are featured in a variety of early football apparel. Some are wearing vest-type tops with sweaters while others are wearing only the sweater or another long-sleeved shirt. The player’s name is printed at the bottom.
The back identifies A.C. Dietsche, a Detroit publisher, making the Michigan connection easy to understand. The backs also have the player’s full name (most of the names on the front feature only the last name) as well as a biography. Backs have a standard divider line, separating the message side from the address side.
