1915 Hinds Cream Stamps Overview
To help advertise the Hinds Honey and Almond Cream product, A.S. Hinds Company distributed this 24-stamp set with the Hinds Cream name printed on it.
The set is a mix of sports and non-sports subjects but the two that draw the most interest are stamps depicting baseball and football. The players and teams are generic in nature for those two stamps, but the football issue appears to feature a Yale player with part of a white ‘Y’ showing on the uniform. An even larger assumption could be made that the team’s opponent is rival Harvard due to the red uniforms.
Other sports shown in the set are golf, tennis, skiing, swimming, boating, and canoeing.
The stamps feature full color images on the front with the Hinds Honey and Almond Cream name. Backs of the stamps have a description of the product and the same back is printed across all of the stamps.
Interestingly enough, Hinds distributed these sets free of charge to drug stores around the country. The drug stores were them allowed to sell them for either two cents for a set or five sets for four sets. In exchange, Hinds asked for mailing lists of the store’s customers to send their cream product.
