1920s Babe Ruth Barnstorming Tour Overview
Babe Ruth and members of the New York Yankees planned a special barnstorming tour after the 1921 season. Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis outlawed the trip, however. Star player Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel still participated and, as REA Auctions notes here, were suspended for the first six weeks of the 1922 season.
These cards were created to promote either that venture or another barnstorming tour, likely in the 1920s.
Pictured is Ruth, the star of the team. Ruth is shown throwing a baseball while the tour is mentioned off to the right. Advertised as appearing are Ruth and Carl Mays. The tour appears to have been the work of a business called __________, Lynch, Savage Enterprises. Part of the name is cut off on the card, although the venture’s address of 370 East 149th Street in New York City is printed.
At slightly larger than 3″ wide by 5″ tall, the card is similar to a postcard in size.
