Newly-Discovered Morehouse Baking Babe Ruth Rookie Coming to REA Fall Catalog Auction.
The REA Fall Catalog Auction will feature the first known example of a 1916 Morehouse Baking #151 Babe Ruth rookie card.

1916 Morehouse Baking Babe Ruth card
The Ruth rookie is the centerpiece of a newly-discovered collection that also includes legends like “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, Jim Thorpe, and more than 100 other players from this incredibly tough series. In fact, fewer than 90 players from the set have been authenticated by PSA and SGC combined, and only a small fraction of those have ever come to auction.
The cards closely resemble the popular M101-4 and M101-5 Sporting News release, the only difference being the reverse-side advertising on behalf of the Massachusetts-based bakery. The ad encouraged pint-sized collectors to assemble a unique set of 50 and receive a “dandy baseball and bat” or a “nice long jump rope” as a reward.
Graded VG+ 3.5 by PSA, this is definitively one of the finest advertising back examples of this iconic card, regardless of the advertising back. More details on this astounding collection will be released leading up the REA’s auction launch in November.
