Original Photo from Joe DiMaggio 1936 National Chicle Fine Pen Issue Comes to Auction

Recently, I wrote about the Joe DiMaggio 1936 National Chicle Fine Pen rookie photo being one of the best pre-war bargains you’ll find. Now, the image used for that collectible is being auctioned.
RMY Auctions has the photo in their current auction.
The image features a young DiMaggio during a spring training game against the Cincinnati Reds. It is from the International News picturing the Hall of Famer in a March 20, 1936 game. The photo is not only significant because of its use in the National Chicle set but also because it is reportedly DiMaggio’s first game in a Yankees uniform.
The accompanying caption on the photograph calls DiMaggio the ‘sensational new star of the New York Yankees’ and mentions the swing resulted in a hit.
Now 82 years old, the photo displays a bit of wear, including a missing corner. However, the actual image is incredible with most damage seemingly avoiding that important part of the photograph.
The auction is already underway and will run until May 26.
