1943 Golden Quality Ice Cream Overview
This set was sponsored by the Golden Quality Ice Cream Company and features members of the Wilkes-Barre Barons. The franchise would go on to be named the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons in later years.
These are really more along the lines of small photos than they are cards since they measure approximately 4″ x 5″ and are printed on thinner stock.
The cards have a black and white image of the subject with a semi-thick white border around the edge. The player’s name is not printed but each photo has a replica signature for him. The bottom border denotes the photo is from the 1943 Barons team and is compliments of Golden Quality Ice Cream.
In all, a total of six ‘cards’ are in the set but the keys are a pair of cards for Hall of Famer Tony Lazzeri, who was the team’s manager at the time. Lazzeri has two poses — one with his hands on his knees and the other with a bat on his shoulder.
