1927 Palmin Boxen und Schwimmen Dempsey vs. Tunney Overview
This series was printed for Palmin, a coconut oil product in Germany. The set features boxers and swimmers, and is notable for three cards picturing boxers Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney.
Dempsey and Tunney battled each other twice – once in 1926 and again in 1927 in the infamous ‘Long Count’ match with Tunney winning both times. The three cards in the set depict one of their fights. These bouts accounted for two of the final three fights in Dempsey’s career.
The cards are printed in color with a caption at the bottom. Backs include text and all text on the cards is in German.
Today, the cards are somewhat rare in the U.S., though not impossible to find. They are part of one small subset of a larger series created by Palmin that included other subjects.
