1924 Franklyn Davey’s Boxing Set Overview
This was one of many instructional sets released in the 1920s and 1930s for the sport. The issue is typically called the Franklyn’s Boxing set, although the official name of the company distributing it was called Franklyn, Davey, and Company. Cards were distributed for the company’s Franklyn’s Cigarettes product.
Cards gave collectors insight on how to perform various boxing techniques. Color pictures were presented on the front and the back gave a description of what was shown. The Franklyn’s name was the at the top of the cards (likely the reason why the set name is limited to that) and a title is at the bottom of each image.
A pair of the same boxers is shown on each card, though they are generic and not meant to depict specific fighters. The lone exception to that is the first card which merely shows one boxer in the proper fighting stance.
