1890s Little Rhody George Young Set Overview
This was another 19th Century set consisting mostly of actresses. But while Jefferson Burdick termed other sets as consisting of actresses, he did not for this issue when he cataloged it as N537 in the American Card Catalog.
At least one boxer is known, though it is a rare card featuring James Corbett. The card is rarely seen today and usually fetches big money when it is. Heritage auctioned a low-grade one back in 2008 for nearly $1,500. Despite the boxing market haven taken a hit, it is a card that would still sell for a good amount these days, simply because of its rarity.
Of note here is that there are two types of N537 cards. One is color and is known as N537-1 while the sepia cards where the Corbett is known, are N537-2.
In addition, the 1890s date is an estimate. This issue could date back to the late 1880s.
