1940s Centennial Flour Seattle Rainiers Overview
In the 1940s, Centennial Flour produced four sets of cards featuring the Seattle Rainiers minor league team. These regional sets are difficult to track down — particularly in the case of the earlier sets.
Issued in 1943, 1944, 1945, and 1947, these cards are all listed as F340 in the American Card Catalog. In all, a total of 109 cards are found in the entire series across all four years.
The 1943 and 1944 cards have a similar look with white borders while the 1945 and 1947 sets have black boxes at the bottom with the players’ names. No set was issued in 1946.
Despite the fact that several players from the Rainiers teams ultimately reached the major leagues, there are not many big names found in this set.
Fronts of all of the cards featured the player’s name and the Seattle Rainiers name.
Below is a slide show of cards with one shown from each set so the differences may be noted. Backs of the 1943 cards state they are compliments of Centennial Flouring Mills. Cards from 1944, 1945, and 1947 state that they are compliments of Centennial Hotcake and Waffle Flour. 1947 cards have a logo for that product.
