1928 Ogden’s Marvels of Motion Overview
This release issued by Ogden’s tobacco company for its cigarette packages in 1928. Ogden’s not only issued numerous trading card sets in the pre-war era but was one of the largest distributors of them.
This is a mixed set that focused on the science of motion and movement. Many of the cards are not related to sports but several are. The sports cards are generally the more popular ones in the set and sports featured include boxing, horse racing, aviation, boating, and track and field/walking. A total of 25 cards are in the entire offering.
The boxing card, as shown here, focuses on the science of action and reaction that is caused by fighter’s contact with each other and also against a stationary object, such as a wall.
These cards are not extremely rare but are certainly not as plentiful as many of Ogden’s later 1930s cards. They are not seen too often in the U.S.
