1940-70 Boxing News Photos Set Overview
This massive issue includes picture cards of famous boxers from the 1940s through 1970.
The series starts with early greats of the sport and continued for decades with new photos being printed. Fronts include black and white pictures of boxers with white borders and their names printed on them. The set represents sort of a chronological history of the sport of boxing with fighters across all eras up to 1970.
‘Photos’ is only partially correct here as several of these include postcard backings instead of blank backs. This site makes a reference to the first 37 having postcard backs with the others being blank.
Despite the presence of numerous American fighters, the set was actually distributed in the UK.
It is important to note that different variations have been found, including both a glossy and non-glossy type. It is believed that the set was reprinted at some time.
