Metropolitan Museum of Art Hosts Baseball Card Exhibit

In October, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted an exhibit of rare baseball cards – “The Old Ball Game: New York Baseball, 1887 – 1977.”
Many cards were from the pre-war card era and included big names. The focus of the exhibit was to highlight baseball cards of former New York players.
The museum was the recipient of approximately 300,000 items from old time collector, Jefferson Burdick. Among the donated items were about 30,000 cards and the exhibit included nearly 400 cards.
The exhibit included cards dating back to as far as the 1880s. Players with cards in the display included Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, among others from later generations.
