1934 MacRobertson’s Champions Overview

1934 MacRobertson's Champions Golf1934 MacRobertson Champions TennisThis rare set was distributed by MacRobertson’s, an Australian candy company. Over the years, MacRobertson’s created numerous sports cards.

This set features Australian athletes from a variety of sports, including boxing, tennis, golf, rugby, soccer, cricket, and track and field, among others. Almost all of the names will be unfamiliar to most American collectors, but the set includes famous cricketer Don Bradman (Card No. 47).

The cards are basic with only black and white photographs and a player’s name on the front. Backs give us the full name of the set, MacRobertson’s 1/2D Champions and calls this the Australian Sporting Series. Card numbers are also listed and it is stated that the set included 72 cards. In addition, backs provide a brief profile of the athlete pictured.

Like other MacRoberton’s issues, the cards are not easy to find in the U.S.

A similar MacRobertson’s set was also created that features only soccer players and it could be somewhat easy to lump those in with these cards as the designs on both the front and the back are the same. However that set is called ‘Footballer’s’ on the back and also includes brown borders.
