1910 Murad College Silks (S21 & S22) Overview
Murad created two different sets of silks, designated as S21 and S22 in the American Card Catalog. A total of 250 silks are in each set and the two sets are identical with the lone exception of the S21 set being larger.
S21 silks are approximately 5″ x 7″ while their counterpart S22 silks are about 3 1/2″ x 5 1/2″
25 colleges and universities are featured in each set with ten different designs for each one. The sports include baseball (two designs), football, hockey, golf, hammer throwing, hurdles, rowing, running, and the shot put. The two baseball designs are generally the most popular and include both a pitcher and a hitter.
These silks do not feature specific players but are still very popular with collectors. There will always be a market for them with alumni and fans of the schools represented.
A similar model was used in the B33 College Felts/Flannels set with many of the same sports also featured. That issue, however, was slightly larger. The release included a total of 30 schools with each school having ten sports. As was the case with the S21 and S22 sets, the pictures of the generic athletes were shared across all schools.
