E253 Oxford Confectionery Overview

E253 Oxford Confectionery Back

The E253 Oxford Confectionery set included 20 different cards. This rare candy issue is believed to have been printed in 1921.

The cards are not impossible to find but they are pretty rare. To date, PSA and SGC have combined to grade well under 1,000 in total.

Fronts included a black and white player picture, his name, and team name. The backs included a complete checklist of the set. Backs started that the cards were packaged with one wrapped with each piece of caramel and that the cards were reproduced solely for the Oxford Confectionery Company located in Oxford, Pennsylvania.

The set included just about every major star of the era. Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth lead the way but there’s plenty more here as well in terms of Hall of Famers, as the set also boasts Walter Johnson, George Sisler, Rogers Hornsby, Tris Speaker, and others. Approximately 2/3 of the set, in fact, is comprised of Hall of Famers.

Unlike other issues from the same era, the E253s are borderless with full bleed images that extend to the edges of the card.
