1910-11 Sweet Caporal Hockey Postcards Overview

SC

Many collectors will point to the 1911 C55, C56, and C57 as the most influential pre-war hockey card issues. But one set that shouldn’t be forgot is the 1910-11 Sweet Caporal Hockey Postcards release.

This set actually served as a predecessor of sorts for the C55 set in that the C55 release actually was created using images in this postcard set.

The postcads are pretty standard, but incredibly rare. They include a striking black and white image of the player on the front with his name and team printed in small font at the bottom. The tops simply read, “Prominent Canadian Hockey Players. Sweet Caporal Cigarettes Series” and then a card number.

Most of the images are close-up portraits but some show a bit more of the player than others. The backs include standard postcard printing.

SGC has graded only a few of each postcard to date.
