W601 Sporting Life Composites Overview
The W601 Sporting Life Composites sets include large team photographs comprised of individual player portraits. The portraits are black and white and the backs are blank.
These are much larger than standard ‘cards’ and at approximately 13″ wide x 14″ tall are close to a perfect square in shape. A variety of designs were issued over the years with small portraits of players.
Composites were printed on thicker paper stock and sold for six cents each or a dozen for fifty cents. Major league teams were the highlights of the sets, obviously, but minor league teams were included, too.
This issue was printed over a full decade in the early 1900s.
