R318 Batter Up Die-Cuts Overview

R318 Batter UpThe R318 Batter Up set includes pop-up cards which were folded so that they could present a 3D player card designed to stand up on a flat surface. The cards were printed in various color tints and have blank backs.

This massive set produced in the 1930s includes a total of 192 cards. They were distributed by National Chicle for their Batter Up gum product and issued over a span of three years, 1934 through 1936.

Because of the die-cut/pop-up factor, these cards are often found heavily damaged or separated entirely from the background. As a result, they are, of course, much less valuable than their intact counterparts.

One interesting thing is that the lower numbers in the set included some colorful tints used. The higher numbered ones were more dull in appearance using darker tones. The low number series cards are a bit smaller. Cards 1-80 are considered as the low number series and cards 81-192 are high numbers. The high number cards are also more difficult to find.

A big development associated with this issue is the discovery of larger, photo premiums for this set. Here’s more information on that issue – the R318 Batter Up Photo Premiums.

You can see pictures of all of the cards here.
