Oilette / Raphael Tuck and Sons Football 2344 Postcards Overview
These postcards were similar to other issues produced around the same time period.
Each postcard featured a female fan or cheerleader for a particular school. However, instead of holding a pennant, which was common in other postcard sets, the girls are instead pictured on a football, making them a decidedly more ‘sports’ issue than some others. A pennant for the school being represented is also seen behind the football and the football also includes the first letter of the school’s name.
Backs include a simple, traditional postcard layout with a partial line (not extending the full height of the card) to separate the message from the recipient’s address.
Artwork was done by an artist named Oilette and the publisher was Raphael Tuck and Sons, who produced numerous postcard issues.
