Book Mark Company College Series No. 1 Postcards Overview
These postcards featured pictures of female athletes or fans of a particular college team.
The pictures are in color and the series is unique from others because it actually features women as athletes. Most of the other sports-related college postcard series’ depicted them as fans or cheerleaders.
All of the postcards featured the school seal at the top with two pennants for the school on each side of it. Below, a woman was shown either as a dressed up fan or an athlete participating in sports such as baseball or track and field. The women are generic in nature and some of the images were used more than once for other schools. In addition, some schools were featured more than once.
Often, these will be found with writing on the front. That is because the back area did not have a postcard divider line and was to be used exclusively for the recipient’s address. The backs of the postcards are state they are part of the company’s College Series No. 1.
The postcards were produced by the Book Mark Company based in Cleveland, Ohio.
