1907 Emanuel College Boy Postcards Overview

The bulk of the collegiate lithographic postcard issues revolving around football actually featured women instead of men. While some series’ depicted men, most were focused around female fans or cheerleaders.

This series bucked the trend a little featuring college guys. The men shown may not necessarily be athletes but this is considered a sports issue because the pictures of the men are surrounded by various pieces of sports equipment.

The postcards have a Polaroid-type appearance with a picture at the top and a large, thick white border at the bottom. Backs included a standard divided postcard design. The artist is unknown but the fronts and backs state that the publisher was the Emanuel Company.

Among the equipment are a football and baseball bat and ball. Other sports represented include golf, fencing, tennis, rowing, and lacrosse.
