Souvenir College Girl Series Postcards Overview
These postcards featured pictures of female fans of a particular college football team. The pictures are in color and each woman is wearing a cap and gown for graduation. Each is also shown with a pennant for the school she is representing.
This was one of many such postcard issues in the early 1900s. Many postcards depicted students (often women) cheering for a sports team, in graduation attire, or, in the case of this set, both. The postcards were the product of the Souvenir Postcard Company of New York and produced in 1905. Beneath each picture is a cheer for the school’s team and also a card number with the mention that it is part of the College Girl Series.
It is undoubtedly a football issue as a picture of a football wrapped in a ribbon is included in the corner.
As is the case with several other sets, most of the schools featured in the set are known today as Ivy League schools.
