M117 Sporting Times Overview

M117 Mitchell.jpg

The M117 Sporting Times set is an incredibly rare issue from the late 1800s.

Card have a black and white image over various light-colored background.s There isn’t much text on the cards and it’s easy to miss. Only the player name and team is on the front as well as a short note identifying the cards as being a courtesy of the Sporting Times.

These can be found individually or as the cover of a scorecard. As Old Judge Auctions noted, the cards are almost always found trimmed and missing the white borders found in the scorecard edition.

If you’re looking for these cards you’re mostly out of luck. While some do occasionally come up for auction, many of the known examples are in the collection of former collector Jefferson Burdick and not available for sale, residing in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
