1934 V354 World Wide Gum Overview

v354-67-waner

v354-04-maranvilleThe 1934 Goudey baseball card followed up the popular 1933 release and as they did in 1933, World Wide Gum created their own version in Canada.

Created by the World Wide Gum Company, the 1934 V354 set is practically a carbon copy to the 1933 and 1934 Goudey issues in terms of look. The set is a little confusing because approximately half the set utilized the 1933 Goudey design while the other half went with the 1934 Goudey design.

Unlike the previous year when World Wide Gum produced a set approximately 40% the size of the nearly parallel 1933 Goudey issue, in 1934 the sets contained the same number of cards as Goudey’s set – 96.

One big benefit of the 1934 World Wide Gum set as opposed to the 1934 Goudeys was that the World Wide Gum set included a Babe Ruth card. The Goudey counterpart had two Lou Gehrig cards, but no Ruth.

1934 cards that have the same 1933 design can be differentiated by the 1934 series on the back.
