1910 Turkey Red Automobile Series Set Overview

This unique series featured 50 early automobile types. They were issued for Turkey Red’s Turkish Cigarettes.

The cards are a bit similar to the famous T36 Auto-Drivers set. However, they are different in that they feature specific automobiles as opposed to named drivers. The subjects found in these cards are generic.

Card fronts include color images of vehicles with thin white borders. The name of the specific card is also included.

Backs are very different than most tobacco cards you will see. They include not only a full checklist of the cards, something that often appeared primarily on early caramel cards. Additionally, they have a bold red Turkey Red Turkish Cigarettes advertisement.

This set often causes confusion among collectors. Some believe it to be an auto racing set while others consider it to merely be a set of vehicles for non-racing purposes. The set is really a bit of a mix of both. Some cards are very much ones depicting traditional automobiles with full backseats and passengers that clearly are not racing. Others are very much racing cards with drivers looking like the typical early auto racing drivers of years past.

Collectors will recognize many popular car brands from this set, including Mercedes, Buick, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Ford, and more.

Demand for these cards is increasing. Low-grade cards typically sell in the $5-$10 range but the more popular brands or tougher cards from the set can start at $20-$30 each.
