1922 Leader Theatre (W573) Overview
The W573 strip cards are often confused with the E120 American Caramel set. Fronts are the same, but the backs of the W573 issue are mostly blank (E120 American Caramel cards have team checklists on the backs).
Fronts include black and white images with the player’s name, position, and team. The player images are inside of a decorative, oval-shaped frame.
While almost all backs were blank, some companies were known to use these W573 cards for their own purposes. One of those was Leader Theatre, a movie theater.
While the E120 set includes a total of 240 cards, that many have not yet been confirmed to be in the W573 set. And to date, only a handful of cards with the Cafe du Monde backs have been found. However, since the E120 and W573 sets are believed to mirror each other, one might be inclined to think that 240 Leader Theatre cards could be available. That almost certainly isn’t true, however. Not only are the cards ultra scarce but the backs advertise that an entire set consisted of only 120 cards. They most likely had 120 cards from the 240-card set printed with their name.
Interestingly enough, Leader Theatre also used the blank-backed W575-1 cards to create their own set as well.
1922 Leader Theatre (W573) Checklist
The W573 checklist, which is believed to mirror the 240-card checklist for the E120 cards, is printed below. Unfortunately, the Leader Theatre backs advertised only 120 cards in the set so they likely used only half of this checklist. Which 120 cards were used is a mystery.
