Mrs. Sherlock’s Bread Toledo Mud Hens Pins Overview
The 1924 PD3 Mrs. Sherlock’s Bread pin set is the company’s most famous set of pins produced. But the bread label also made several sets of pins featuring minor league players, too.
Those players were members of the minor league Toledo Mud Hens team. Mrs. Sherlock’s Bread made sets featuring their players in 1920 and 1933. The pin shown is from the company’s 1933 release.
The pins had different looks but in general, featured the Mrs. Sherlock’s name at the top with a black and white player image in the middle. The bottom usually had his name and sometimes position.
As you might expect, the pins are not nearly as popular as the PD3 issue, which includes major leaguers, such as Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson. But they are still a pretty rare pre-war collectible and desired by pin collectors and pre-war fans.
