Nelson Morris Pigs Playing Baseball Trade Card Overview
This trade card features a baseball scene and served as an advertisement for Nelson Morris and Company, a lard distributor.
The scene features pigs playing a disorderly game of baseball. Not real organization is clear. A pitcher appears to be throwing an item (a bucket of lard?) to first base before a batter can reach the base safely.
Meanwhile, an advertisement and their different brands is presented on signature areas in the stadium. The brand in the card shown here is the Lily Leaf Brand. However, their info is replaced with that of other brands on other Nelson Morris cards using this same picture.
The scoreboard displays a faux score of a game between the brand and ‘Competitors.’ Unsurprisingly, the Nelson Morris Brand is always winning in a blowout.
Nelson Morris Pigs Playing Baseball Trade Card Checklist
Only one card using the same artwork exists in the set. However, that card was used for several of Nelson Morris’ brands. 2-3 are often cited as being in this set but to date, I have seen cards for these five brands. Others may exist.
- Daisy Brand
- Kettle Rendered Brand
- Lily Leaf Brand
- Supreme Brand
- White Leaf Brand
