1934 Herbert Hats Chicago Cubs Photo Premiums Overview
Many collectors of pre-war items are familiar with the 1930s Adam Hats photo premiums. Those included pictures of several baseball players and other athletes wearing the company’s branded Panama style hats. A lesser known issue, however, is the 1934 Herbert Hats Chicago Cubs premiums.
Herbert Hats produced at least two photograph premiums featuring members of the Chicago Cubs. One was an individual picture of Kiki Cuyler (shown here) and the other was a team issue. The link to the team issue states that a few individual players have surfaced. It is not known how many different photos are needed to complete the set.
The Cuyler picture includes a replica signature as well as a quote from him that reads:
“The most comfortable Panama I have ever worn and its (sic) a Herbert.”
Cuyler’s name, position, and team are also handwritten on the image for identification purposes.
