1916 Cy Young County Treasurer Promotional Card Overview
Cy Young was a legendary baseball player that tried his hand at politics after his career ended. In 1916, he was the Republican candidate for a County Treasurer position (Tuscarawas County).
This promotional card was likely used as a promotional tool to help his bid to win. Young is pictured on the front in a suit and tie. His name and desired office is listed below the black and white portrait. The election date is also given (November 7th) and the card is blank on the reverse. To date, I have not seen the results of that election.
The card is rare and, to date, only a few are known. There also appear to be different variations as one in this thread is different than the one pictured here.
Young had strong ties to Tuscarawas County. He was born there in Gilmore, a rural farming area. After his career, he moved back to the area, where he would run for the County Treasurer position.
