M101-6 Sporting News / Felix Mendelsohn Photo Cards Overview
A total of nine different subsets make up the famous M101 Sporting News and Supplements series. The nine subsets are categorized as M-Cards in the Periodicals section of the American Card Catalog.
The nine sets are a mixture of both cards and large supplements issued by the Sporting News. With approximately 700 cards and supplements, the issue is a large one, to say the least.
The M101-6 series was identified as a Sporting News set in the American Card Catalog but that is incorrect. Much is not known about this set, in fact. Felix Mendelsohn, who produced the M101-4 cards, is believed to be the ‘F.H.’ printed on these cards. But it is not known how they were distributed or who they were for. Even the exact year remains in question. Mostly, it is attributed as a 1917-20 set.
Old Cardboard states that there are 119 known cards in the set.
