211. Baseball Scene (813) Trade Card Overview

211 Trade CardThis is a trade card that includes a baseball scene.

Pictured is a baseball game with two teams playing in a large stadium. The interesting thing about the card is that the baseball game is on a hanging sheet of paper pinned to a wall. The rest of the card has surrounding equipment, including two bats, a base, catcher’s mask, a hat, and two baseballs. Ivy is growing against the wall, similar to Wrigley Field.

The card is further identifiable by a small printed ‘813’ in the lower left corner.

While believed initially to have been a standalone issue, we know that this card is actually part of a set. In 2020, I discovered a card with the same type of design but with a picture of a cricket match instead. That card also as the identifying R813 mark. A collector shared a third card with me featuring the sport of rowing. It is certainly possible that others exist. That same collector identified a fourth card, depicting tennis.

Like other trade cards, these can be found with advertisements on the back or along the top for various businesses.

This card was numbered separately by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards, 3rd Edition.” It was a trade card he identified but did not have a printed title on it. Because of that, he catalogued it with a number instead, which is the number in the title shown here.
