1936-37 Providence Reds Overview
The 1936-37 Providence Reds set is a small black and white issue commemorating players from that hockey team from that operated 1926-27.
The cards appear to be printed as a team issue and distributed during the team’s games. The fronts include a black and white picture of a player as well as his name, position, and replica signature. The bottom states the following: “A New Reds Picture Every Amateur Hockey Night.”
The date of the cards is significant in that it was the first season the team was playing in the American Hockey League. Previously, the team was a part of the Canadian-American Hockey League, which was a predecessor of the American Hockey League. The team was in a new league and had a new logo, so perhaps the club thought acquainting/reacquainting the team with fans was a good idea for that year.
Of particular note regarding the set is that the player for No. 10 is unnamed.
These cards are scarce given that PSA has graded only a handful for each player.
