1928 and 1929 Star Player Candy Overview

29SP 1929 Star Player Candy Ruth.jpg

Star Player Candy featured assorted trading cards with their products in both 1928 and 1929.

In 1928, cards were printed with a black and white/sepia-toned player image on the front along with his name. Backs were entirely blank. This set included mostly baseball players but other athletes as well.

The 1929 set includes a variety of personalities, including baseball players and other athletes. Babe Ruth is the highlight of the set. The design was practically the same as the previous year. The cards featured a sepia-toned image on the front with the athletes’ name at the bottom.

The main difference between the 1928 and 1929 sets in terms of design were the backs. While the 1928 cards had blank backs, the 1929 issue had a card number as well as a biography.

Here are pictures of all of the 1928 cards.

1928 and 1929 Star Player Candy Checklists

1928

A complete 1928 checklist is not yet known, but here are confirmed baseball cards that have been graded per the SGC and PSA pop reports.

Lou Gehrig is listed in some checklists but I have not physically seen one. One has not been graded nor listed by an auction house. The only Gehrigs that seem to be out there are the 1929 issues. For that reason, I have left it off of my checklist but the possibility does exist that one could be found.
