1924 Diaz Cigarettes/Cigarros Tomas Gutierrez Baseball Album Overview

The 1924 Cigarros Tomas Gutierrez baseball album is a curious issue. The album includes several pages of teams of major league players with generic cards of them. Many images were, however, used in the 1924 N258 Diaz Cigarettes issue.

The pages of the album feature approximately 12-15 pictures on each. That’s several more than most other types of similar albums so, understandably, the nearly 9″ x 12″ size is considerably larger than other premium tobacco albums. In all, the album includes a whopping 32 pages with each of baseball’s 16 teams receiving two pages of pictures.

As a Cuban issue, few of these made it into the hands of U.S. collectors. So even though the album was printed decades after most other album issues, it is considerably more rare. The album was available as a redemption offer from the 1924 Diaz Cigarettes set as collectors had to mail in a complete set to obtain one. Thus, there probably weren’t too many handed out. It is unclear if the album could be obtained as a direct purchase.

Baseball’s biggest names are all here, including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson.
