1910 Hermes Ice Cream Pittsburgh Pirates Pins Overview
Like other products in 1909 and 1910, the Hermes Ice Cream pins sought to celebrate the Pittsburgh Pirates’ championship team of 1909. The set of 1 1/4″ pins featured members of the Pirates team with a unique design that included the player’s image in the middle along with a Pittsburgh pennant and skull logo at the bottom.
While the pins did have pictures of the players, oddly enough, no names were included. That might be less problematic today when fans can readily identify their favorite players. But back in the period before television, it would have been difficult for many people to identify the players.
Whitehead and Hoag, a popular manufacturer of pins in that era, produced these for the ice cream company.
