H804-20 Western and Southern Life Insurance Trade Cards Overview
This set is part of the baseball comic series of trade cards. Noted collector Frank Keetz assigned it the designation used in his book, “Baseball Advertising Trade Cards 3rd Edition.”
Similar to other trade cards of the era depicting baseball, children are featured playing the game here. Two baseball cards are currently known to exist – one featuring a batter and catcher while the other one, a sliding baserunner.
Western and Southern Life Insurance’s name is found on these cards but also on other trade cards as well. Most notably, they are seen on cards cataloged as No. 205 by Keetz. Keetz called that the Western and Southern Life Insurance set as well but those cards were also used by other companies, too. Cards from the No. 205 set are more common than cards from this issue which are much more difficult to find.
As is the case with most trade cards, these are fragile and printed on thinner card stock. For that reason, they can be torn or ripped quite easily and damaged easier than standard baseball cards.
