1931 Yuasa and Company Tour of Japan Overview
The 1931 Yuasa and Company Tour of Japan cards commemorated the trip to that country made by American baseball players.
That Tour, by the way, was a rousing success for the Americans. The team featured numerous stars, such as Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Mickey Cochrane, Lefty Grove, and more. Playing against amateur and collegiate players, they had no trouble. The Americans dominated the series of games, winning all 17 contests in which they played.
The blank-backed cards have a sepia style picture of a player on the front along with a replica signature. In general, the oversized cards are extremely rare.
As this article states, the cards were distributed in a gray envelope of some sort. However, what isn’t clear is how they were given to collectors.
1931 Yuasa and Company Tour of Japan Checklist
The checklist for the set remains in question. PSA cites that only 12 are needed for the set registry. However, Prestige Collectibles has stated there are at least 19 cards in the issue, including some pose variations of players.
