1931 W-UNC Strip Cards Overview

W502 05 Hartnett.jpg

This unclassified strip card set was not recognized by Jefferson Burdick in his American Card Catalog. The estimated date of the cards is believed to be late 1920s or early 1930s. Many collectors have targeted 1931 for this issue’s date.

Cards include black and white player images on the fronts and blank backs. The cards are identical to the W502 strip card set and checklist with only a few exceptions.

First, some of the W502 set card backs say things such ‘One Bagger” and “Two Bagger” to indicate, presumably, the number of bases on a hit, as they were part of a game. These 1931 W-UNC strip cards had blank backs.

In addition, while the cards were the same between the two sets, the card numbers printed on them did not match up.
