1929/1930 King Magazine Overview
The 1929/1930 King Magazine card set is a difficult one to find in the United States. A Japanese issue, this was a multi-sport set that also included some non-sports personalities.
The lone baseball subjects in the set can be found on a single card that features New York Yankees Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Ruth and Gehrig were pictured on a card that shows them celebrating after a World Series win.
The set is often touted as a 1930 issue but since the Yankees won the 1928 World Series (and not the 1929 one), it is likely that this is a 1929 set. The card could have been printed later, however, and a 1930 set may be possible.
The cards in the set use a mix of black and white, color toned, and color pictures. The bottoms include Japanese text as do the backs.
A total of 48 cards were included in the set. The cards were initially printed on panels with four cards per sheet.
