1927-28 La Mallorquina Caramels Overview
Pronounced ‘Ma-your-keen-ah’, this set was produced in Cuba. The set features Cuban baseball players. Most of the players in the set were only amateurs but some did play professionally.
The cards are tiny, measuring only about an inch tall and less than an inch wide. The front includes a black and white player image and his name and a card number at the bottom. The back reads “La Mallorquina Caramelos Peloteros,” which, roughly translated, is La Mallorquina Caramels Ball Players.
The diminutive size makes them somewhat similar to another foreign issue – the even-smaller 1930 Baguer Chocolate set.
The set includes a de facto rookie cards of Baseball Hall of Famers Martin Dihigo and Willie Foster.
