1921 Frederick Foto Overview
The 1921 Frederick Foto cards includes both minor league and major league players. The set was produced by Frederick Foto Service in California, so the minor leaguers are Pacific League players.
The cards are basic, including a black and white image of a player, his name, and the Frederick Foto name. The backs of these mounted cards are entirely blank. They have a somewhat odd, thin rectangular shape.
The way Frederick Foto was presented on the front varied. Sometimes, Frederick Foto was written in white and others, it was in black. Another variation included the Frederick Foto logo.
There aren’t many big names in this set aside from Babe Ruth. Ruth’s card is easily the most valuable. His card is interesting in that he is pictured with the Boston Red Sox.
That would ordinarily be cause for alarm with the dating since Ruth last appeared with that team in 1919. However, his new team is printed as ‘N.Y.’, denoting that while he is pictured in a Red Sox uniform he was currently playing for the Yankees. While an old picture was used, the team change makes this photo fit with the time period.
Many of the players included have pose variations.
