1911 Stevens Firearms Blotters Overview
With an elongated design that was more horizontal than many cards, the 1911 Stevens Firearms blotters looked like an oversized true business card of sorts.
The blotters measured a little bigger than 3″ tall by about 6″ long and were all printed with a horizontal layout. The company produced the cards as a tribute to the pennant-winning Philadelphia Athletics team of 1911.
Like other trade cards, these were apparently used by many different distributors. That is evident by the right side of the card, which features an area where a retailer could add his/her store name in a box, stating that they sold Stevens Firearms. The left side of the card was the baseball portion with a picture of a player and his name, position, and the Philadelphia Athletics team name at the bottom.
As blotters, these were used so that excess ink from fountain pens could be dried. For that reason, you will often see them with ink spots.
