1927 Carreras Nose Game Overview

1927 Carreras Nose Game Golf and Soccer.jpgThis interesting issue featured both non-sports and sports personalities. Distributed by Carreras, Ltd., the set included a total of 50 cards. The cards were part of a game called “The Nose Game.”

Most notably is the cards’ shape. Instead of a rectangular card, these had rounded corners like miniature tobacco playing cards. While many of the subjects were non-sports personalities, a good number of sports cards were included, too, as the release featured athletes from golf, soccer, and others.

Really, these were five sets in one. A total of five subsets made up the overall issue, with each of the five including ten cards. The focal points here were the noses of the subjects. Five types of noses were identified and those were what made up the five subsets. Each of the five types is labeled A, B, C, D, or E and the five types of noses were:

  • Set A – The Impulsive Nose
  • Set B – The Inquisitive Nose
  • Set C – The Aggressive Nose
  • Set D – The Artistic Nose
  • Set E – The Commercial Nose

Of note here is that there are two types of sizes. The more common cards are smaller like traditional tobacco cards. A larger set, however, features cards that are about 2 1/2″ x 3″.

Fronts of the cards featured the colorful cartoon images of the subjects as well as the card number. The backs had a playing card style of design and indicated that leaflet instructions with details how to play the game could be obtained from tobacco dealers.
